This duo of carousel books reinterprets the layers of the world through historical cartog-raphy. At its core is a Ptolemaic map of the world, framed by outer layers of clouds and stars that evoke a connection between the terrestrial and the celestial. When opened, the books unfold into the shape of the Vergina Sun, a symbol from ancient Greek art that speaks to ideas of radiance and unity. This work is an inquiry into how ancient civilizations interpreted and mapped their living world, shaping collective consciousness and framing humanity’s understanding of its place within a larger cosmic order.

The problem was balancing durability, functionality, and aesthetics in the carousel structure. To tackle this, proportional spine thickness ensured stability, kozo paper hinges provided flexibility and strength, and embedded magnets secured closure without straining the design. These solutions achieved structural integrity and visual harmony.
